"Catholics and Conscience" with Dr. Ken Himes, O.F.M.

At the Second Vatican Council, conscience was defined as a person’s “most secret core and sanctuary” and that “to obey it is the very dignity” of the individual. Appeals to conscience have been made by many towering figures of moral heroism both within and outside of the Catholic tradition. This presentation will look at the biblical and historical roots of our understanding of conscience as well as examine how conscience is formed and what is the relationship of conscience to civil and religious authority.
