I glossed over it without giving it a thought. After Mass we went to the car and I turned on my cell phone to find a message that the daughter of our best friend was trying to reach us. She was calling from the Clinic to say her father and the family decided to "pull the plug" after a long illness. He wanted to say goodbye to Pat & I. The poem has been etched in my brain ever since. My condolences, Martha. Peace be with you.

The first time I saw this poem it was on the inside flap of our Sunday worship aide about 4 years ago. I glossed over it quickly

I love that poem, This one on a similar theme came to me last week. The great secret of death and perhaps the deepest connection with us, is this; in taking from us a being we loved and venerated, death dose not wound us without, at the same time, lifting us toward a more perfect understanding of this being and of ourselves.
